So for some time now my sister (the girl in blue) and I have been planning to go to Mooon Cafe, which is this new-ish Mexican-inspired restaurant in downtown Iloilo. All this time I thought that the name is Moon, like any other normal person, but it has three O’s, which I forgot to ask about.
Anyhoo, as you can see from the first picture, the interior is very festive. I couldn’t stop gushing about how colourful the place is. And I swear on my life, I didn’t even enhance that picture (nor any of the pictures in this article). Now on to the food!

So I ordered the chimichanga ’coz on the menu it was indicated that it was a best-seller and it had a chili icon, which meant that it’s spicy. After living for years in Indonesia and becoming used to spicy food, I am often disappointed with how things labelled ‘spicy’ in the Philippines often turn out to be not spicy. Such was the case with this chimichanga (I feel so misled. *tears*). Not only was it not spicy—even after I put heaps of Tabasco—, it was salty. The best thing about it was the tortilla, which isn’t really a good thing to say. Oh and the abundance of cheese.

Next, we have the burrito pescada, which my sister ordered.

Inside the tortilla is fried fish fillet, some vegetables and it’s topped with lots of cheese. It’s accompanied with tomato and pepper salsa (left) and onion, tomato and herb salsa (right). And it was really good. We highly recommend this one.
Anyways, after we ordered, we noticed that virtually every table in the restaurant had this…punch-like thing. So we asked the waitress what it was and she said that it was their best-selling sun coolers, or something like that. She said that it was basically orange and mango juice, with fruit bits. It sounds delicious and we were a little annoyed we didn’t order it lol, but we’ll definitely order it next time.

I loved basically everything about Mooon, from their food to the atmosphere, except towards the end of our meal I was disappointed by their service. I had ordered bottomless iced tea, and I had asked a waitress to refill my iced tea. After nearly 15 minutes of wondering where the hell was my refill, I saw the very same waitress outside of the cafe, going home. O_O I understand that probably her shift was over, but it was irresponsible of her not to bring me my order before she left. Or at the very least, asked someone else to do it. That pissed me off a lot.
But other than that waitress, our trip to Mooon was very satisfactory. If you’re in Iloilo and like Mexican food, visit Mooon ASAP!
Later tater!
Patricia
