Shoo-Fly Pie, Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Why Shoo-Fly, you ask? Well this was created WAAAY back when the Amish first set foot in America. As told by my aunt. A long time ago, there were these German groups who practiced a certain way of life. they noticed that the community that they were living in were developing, which they did not like. So they decided to move to America to practice their lifestyle. The Amish people made the pie out of necessity because they do not have fridge or any electronics to preserve food. Shoo-Fly pie can stay edible without being refrigerated, but because they’re really sweet, they attract flies. So people have to “shoo” the flies off the pies. Hence, SHOO-FLY PIE!!

The Chocolate Shoo-Fly Pie. Honestly, I wasn’t able to taste the chocolate at all. It was just sweet. But good. Just good. Too sweet. But good.

Now this one was MAGIC! It’s the Pecan Shoo-Fly Pie. OMG. It was sweet, pecan-y, a little crunchy, and heavenly. I definitely tasted a lot of caramel and a little cinnamon. Maybe apple? Not sure.
Well, over all, I like this pie. Too sweet though. I would not even eat this on a monthly basis. But this is my first time being in an Amish Town area, so I’m all good!
